MetroAir currently has two hubs from which we operate. Washington Dulles International, DC is MetroAir's new primary Hub for our east coast operations. Dulles was promoted to Hub status on December 9th, 2007. Originally a "Focus City" for the airline, KIAD allowed the airline to start route proving exercises and research passenger trends that would keep the airline a success, despite the declining and volatile economic market in Detroit. This exercise proved to be a success and the Executive Management made the decision to switch operations from our original Hub at KDTW.
Building on the success of operations on the east coast and the financial security it gave the airline, the decision to announce LA/Ontario International, CA as MetroAir's second hub on July 11th, 2007, came as no surprise. Switching from nearby Los Angeles International due to overcrowding and high outgoings, KONT proved itself a suitable home for west coast travellers and management alike. In a bid to establish MetroAir further on the west coast, the airline simultaneously launched it's new MetroAir "Shuttle" brand. Ontario is also MetroAir's primary base for all pacific bound Trans-Continental flights utilizing the airline's Airbus A330 aircraft.
Detroit Metropolitan International, MI was the airline's first base of operations and played a pivotal role in introducing MetroAir to the Virtual Airline community on January 14th 2006. MetroAir's hub at Detroit proved to be successful and the airline quickly established itself with both passengers and pilots alike. However, economic downturn in 2007 proved to be KDTW's downfall and the decision was made to move operations to Washington Dulles International, DC and downgrade Detorit from Hub status. Detroit however, will always be synonymous with MetroAir within the Virtual Airline community and is still home to MetroAir's Headqurters in nearby Romulus to this day.
