Allegius History
From MetroAirWiki
Allegius entered the MetroAir corporate picture in September of 2007. At the time, MetroAir had been investigating opportunities to raise cash which reducing the liabilities of significant equipment purchases necessary to grow a regional fleet. A group of silent investors initiated discussions with MetroAir HQ in Romulus, MI to discuss the sale of the MetroAir Regional Fleet for re-lease back to the carrier. Initially plans seemed impractical, but as discussions progressed MetroAir management deemed the possibility of a sale practical. On September 19, 2007 MetroAir publicly announced the sale of the regional fleet of Dash-8 turboprops to the newly-formed Allegius Corporation.
Operations
As of May 2008, the Allegius Corporation operates all flights under the MetroAir Virtual Airlines Part 121 air certificate, using the ICAO-registered "MET" callsign, with all aircraft, crews and maintenance provided by MetroAir operations on lease from Allegius. [edit]
